Great up close experience with my 7 year old son this past June. Learned a lot about Bison, very educational, bison jerky was delicious, reasonable entry fee, he didn't want to leave. Definitely will be going back and will definitely bring friends/family.
On July 30th, 2016, my husband and I visited Broken Wagon Bison Farm with my daughter and grandchildren. We took a tour and rode a wagon into the fields. The bison came right up to the wagon. We were given interesting facts about the bison before and after the trip. A gift shop offers Indian and bison related items for sale.-----We all enjoyed this experience very much.
Great little adventure. I was traveling up to Chicago with my ol' lady. She's racked out in the car, so I decided to take a little detour off of the interstate. Broken Wagon Bison popped up on my maps and figured I would surprise her when she woke up. As I pulled up it didn't look as if anyone was home, although there is a small office in the barn. The door was locked, so I was quite bummed. As I sat in the van deciding the next destination a big man in overalls came walking out of the house. He looked like Santa Clause on steroids with his big white beard and muscles. He smiled and waived us out of the car. He basically started an impromptu tour right away. As we were the only ones there on a late weekday morning, he took us over to the nearest gate where he had a few calves. He asked my lady if she wanted to feed them a bottle, which she declined, but I did get her to go up and pet them. We ended up chatting for over an hour and he had some really fun stories. You can tell he really cares about these creatures. Some are considered pets and the others, well they will eventually become burgers. We eventually made it in to the office where I bought some burgers, jerky, and a nice bison steak. He tossed in some extra burgers since we showed up and there was no one there to great us. I highly recommend taking the side roads, you never know what you'll run into.
What a great place to visit. They provide an educational talk that is both for adults and kids, not too long. Then you get to go see the Bison herd. The kids on the tour loved being near the bison. Bring your camera and take pictures. They had one calf that was being cared for separately, got to pet this little guy. My teens and wife enjoyed the tour. 2 hours went by and didn't even notice. Highly recommended.
